Client Testimonial Floating in the therapeutic pool at Intuitive Healing Arts, my mind wandered while Cathy Braun moved my arms slowly through the water, manipulating my limbs and joints through a series of movements. This is Watsu massage, a technique employing Zen shiatsu massage with water therapy and a pleasant alternative to the typical massage. My session lasted 45 minutes while I floated in the warm water with my eyes closed and ears below the water. While the massage progressed I became more relaxed--I even fell asleep. I'd have to agree with the assessment many have made when describing Watsu as dance or poetry. Watsu has a distinct healing flavor. Afterward I felt more centered and ready to go on with my day. Watsu was developed in 1980 by Harold Dull, director of the School of Shiatsu and Massage in Harbin Hot Springs, California. He combined the stretches and meridian work of Zen shiatsu with warm water and found it an effective treatment for stress relief. It also has proved helpful in reducing chronic back pain and in treating arthritis, sleep disorders, fibromyalgia and orthopedic problems. Intuitive Healing Arts is the only place in the Tampa Bay Area where Watsu is practiced and one of the few areas in the Southeast United States where clients can receive the benefits of this unique process. I whole heartedly recommend Cathy Braun's Watsu massage. Bill Chastain |
